A Sweet Lunch Giveaway! (Closed)
Yesterday I posted all about school lunches, and I hope I provided some good inspiration for those of you with school-age kids. More importantly, I promised a giveaway, and I'm here to deliver.
Sure, you can pack a pretty amazing lunch with nothing but a paper sack and some sandwich bags. But why not step it up a notch, and use a pretty fabulous bento box? And why not use a pretty sweet cookbook full of lunch recipes and inspiration?
As I mentioned yesterday, this lunchbox from Pottery Barn Kids is one of my favorite purchases of the year. It's cute, environmentally friendly, easy to clean, and makes packing a lunch so easy and low maintenance. So would you like to win one?
And while I'm at it, I'm also giving away a copy of Weelicious Lunches. This cookbook is full of recipes and ideas for lunches that go beyond a pb&j. I use it all the time for inspiration for Caroline's lunches, as well as for ideas for the boys as well. I'm a big fan of the Weelicious food blog, and the cookbook is a wonderful extension of it. I find myself flipping through it at least weekly for new ideas and combinations.
To enter, just leave a comment telling me what your favorite lunch food was as a kid. I was definitely a fan of the classic peanut butter and jelly!
The fine print:
This giveaway is sponsored by yours truly because I really love these items. The winner can choose his or her favorite pattern for the lunchbox. Open to US residents only. Must leave a valid email address to win. Giveaway is open until Friday, September 5th at midnight. Winner will be chosen using a random number generator. Good luck!

PB&j. Could eat every day. As a child and now it is a favorite.
As a kid I wasn't a big sandwich fan so my favorite lunch was soup.
Turkey sandwiches
What an awesome giveaway!! My very favorite lunch as a kid was a plain, untoasted bagel with cream cheese.
I went through a stage where all I wanted was jelly sandwiches-no pb. Crazy!
My favorite sandwich has always been peanut butter, banana and honey!
As a kid, PB&J!
Peanut butter and fluff for me!
Not a big sandwich fan, so cheese and crackers or mini pizzas.
My lunch was basically the same and I cringe every time I think about it. I had cheese crackers (the overly processed ones that come in a package), Doritos (I'm sure my breath was great!), and I really think that's all. There's no way I would let me children have that for lunch now!
I wasn't a huge fan of sandwiches as a kid. My favorite lunch when I was a kid was those Lunchables packs -- I always got the turkey and cheese ones!
I loved when I got older and my mom would pack salads and put dressing in a tiny container, this was pre-bento box era!
as a kid pb&j at school or toasted pimento cheese at home- YUM!
Kraft Macaroni & Cheese!
Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in my lunch (but I honestly preferred the PB right out of the jar, which was how I ate my after-school snack!)
How's this- gefilte fish, and Little Debbie star crunch (or oatmeal pie). Oh to have Little Debbie's again!
When I was a kid, I loved soup in my thermos!
crackers and cheese!
Thanks for the new ideas. Am always looking to mix it up with healthy options they will eat. :) My kids also love a thermos with yogurt, frozen blueberries and a drizzle of maple syrup. Keeps great til lunchtime.
My fave was those thingys called Lunchables. Do they still have them? They were like a tiny bento box type thing with crackers and cheese and turkey. Ahhh those were so much fun. Capri Sun drinks were the bomb too although my school banned them because none of us kiddos could open them without making a giant mess!
My favorite was either peanut butter and jelly sandwich or a ham sandwich. I also loved when my mom would add in a small treat. :)
My favorite was always leftovers. I am not a fan of cold lunch food except in summer so something warm in my thermos was always a winner and my mother is a great cook.
Leftover pizza! Hopefully if my toddler is asked this question years from now his answer will be different. Especially with all of your great tips!
Salami rolls for sure! I still pack those for my lunches as an adult too :)
My kiddos love turkey roll-ups. A soft tortilla w/ turkey, cheese, etc. and a schmear of whipped cream cheese as the 'glue' that holds the wrap rolled up! It's the ONLY non-sandwich lunch idea I have... so I have saved this list you sent! Maybe I'll get creative??!! Poor Callaway....! Thanks Josie! YOU ROCK!
pizza sandwiches made in the sandwich maker
I used to love peanut butter and honey sandwiches in my lunch. Way better than jelly!
Baked potato and French fries everyday from the cafeteria
I loved turkey on baguette. I ate it every.single.day :)
I always loved those square pizzas they served in the school cafeteria. I didn't like sandwiches growing up, only to discover later that it was because of the mayo. Now I'm a turkey and swiss girl, extra mustard!
I liked peanut butter and strawberry jam on white bread, I was so picky as a kid.
My dad was a bachelor, so he didn't do creative or fancy. PB&J all the way!
Peanut Butter with homemade black raspberry jelly!!!
Peanut butter and tang! Just the tang powder sprinkled in the peanut butter-not prepared tang.
I was a sucker for turkey, Swiss and pickles on white bread!
I never had cold lunch as a kid, so the school tacos were my favorite!

I bought school lunch a lot... which means I didn't eat much at lunch.
I was definitely a PB&J lover.
Turkey sandwiches were a staple!
I loved triscuits and cheddar cheese and applesauce!
I loved my canned Chef Boyardee's... thankfully, I haven't eaten those in several decades! :)
Bologna. I still love it as an adult.
I think I ate a turkey sandwich with pickles and honey mustard or Durkee sauce every day growing up. The best!
I think I ate a lot of those processed cheese and crackers packs--yuck! and turkey sandwiches. I remember being envious of one friend b/c his mom always packed a sandwich made with white bread, chips, a cookie and a can of soda. Can't imagine giving that to my kids these days.
Turkey sandwiches, pb&j, and pizza lunchables!
Hmmmm...favorite lunch food as a kid were those mini bags of chips! Such a treat! Of course, I'd be appalled by eating them every day now, but at the time, they were amazing!
Sandwiches... my favorite was pastrami! Snack-food wise, I loved to buy the strawberry shortcake ice cream bars :)
I hated sandwiches, but would bring rolled up lunch meat and cheese. I was ahead of my time with the Atkins diet apparently!
I loved a break in the routine....something other than my typical sandwich for lunch. However, I also loved jelly and cream cheese sandwiches - my dad used to make them for us
My favorite was the BLT sandwich! It was such a treat to get that.
Peanut butter and jelly all the way!
PB&J and yogurt for me.
Baked tortilla chips with cheese!!
Turkey sandwich! I could still eat one everyday. Thank you!
Grilled cheese! I still eat these for lunch 3-4 times a week.
Pizza!
peanut butter on saltine crackers
Turkey and swiss sandwich!
I hated sandwiches so my mom would just deconstruct them and I'd eat everything seperate! Also loved peanut butter, butter and chocolate chips, got those on RARE occasions!
Pick meeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!! :-) I'm so excited about this giveaway. I've been coveting these lunchboxes somethin' fierce.
For a long time, I was a friend of PB&J. Eventually I graduated to turkey & swiss, or turkey & cheese, but I was pretty loyal to turkey. Once my high school started serving soup in bread bowls though, I was a convert.
So fun! I have long coveted the PB kids lunchbox! My favorite lunch as a kid was what my mom and I called my 'special sandwich': lettuce, tomato, cheese and miracle whip on WW bread. I also loved that she would draw a heart in my PB on my sandwich. I have a good mama. ;)
I loved turkey and Swiss on wheat with spicy brown mustard. Still a favorite today for me and my 6 year old!
Such a fun giveaway - love these lunch boxes! When I was a kid I was weird about sandwiches so I used to take peanut butter on triscuit crackers to school for lunch!
Grilled cheese and tomato soup!
My school cafeteria had these really good turkey sandwiches!
Always Pb&j!
Turkey and cheese :)
Baloney and American cheese on white bread, with Ruffles potato chips right in the sandwich. Every single day. You couldn't pay me enough to eat that now!
Peanut butter and honey....yum!
I loved getting leftovers for lunch. My mom would make me a sandwich out of a breaded chicken or veal cutlet in a pita pocket with ketchup. :)
Peanut butter and jelly...of course!
I loved ham and cheese sandwiches!
Not my favorite but for some reason we always had tuna fish sandwiches for lunch. And had to get 3 servings out of a small can. Sorry to all my friends who sat next to me in the cafeteria.
Peanut butter-no jelly!
I loved the potato bar with cheese and broccoli.
PBJ!!!
What a great giveaway! I was just eyeing these lunch boxes in the catalog this week!
My fave as a kid was peanut butter sandwiches (no jelly!). My little one is currently longing quesadillas and blackberries
Cheese Sandwich with mayo on Roman Meal.
Peanut butter, jelly and potato chips on wheat bread...had to have it just about every single day.
Just like my little man, I loved peanut butter and jelly!
Celery with peanut butter. I also loved ham sandwiches with mustard.
Leftover subs from a local sub shop! Yummy!
Salami and cheddar cheese with mustard. I must've stunk up the cafeteria!
Peanut butter and jelly too!
PB&J! Yum!
as a kid I deeinitely enjoyed a pb&j and I alaways loved how my dad would remove the crust or use cookie cutters to give the sandwich a fun shape!
I don't like jelly, so my mom made me peanut butter and butter sandwiches. I loved them then but now it sounds so gross!
Mine was also PB&J! Took it everyday in my lunch for years….and still eat it often now for lunch, only on toast.
Probably PB&J or Turkey!
Turkey rolls up was my favorite as a kid.
Oh my gosh, I liked all sorts of random stuff, like leftover(cold) chicken tenders, bread & butter sandwich, swiss cake rolls for dessert! I usually brought my lunch, but I liked to buy lunch on shrimp popper days. Gross! :-P
I don't anything beats pb&j. I still crave it!
I lived on turkey sandwiches when I was little!
I loved the school's mac and cheese. Creamy and delicious.
I went through phases where I'd stick to the same sandwich over and over again until I was completely sick of it. One that I stuck with for an embarrassingly long time? White bread with baloney, American cheese and mayo...
We always had peanut butter and honey sandwiches!
PB & J, of course! And, sometimes with chips tucked into the sandwich. Yum!
I loved cream cheese and jelly sandwiches!
Cold left over pizza was always my favorite lunch as a kid!

From Aga … pb&j
Peanut butter and marshmallow sandwich
Turkey sandwich!
peanut butter and jelly!!
My favorite lunch was a tuna fish sandwich, and tomato soup in my thermos.
Peanut butter and marshmellow fluff!! So much sugar...I guess my parents thought - the school has to deal with her, not us!!! Haha!
We always wanted hot lunch (of course) but didn't get it often. I made my lunch as long as I can remember, being the youngest kid. I liked salami and cream cheese with pickles.
I always loved chicken tetrazzinni day! Thanks so much!
I used to love Lunchables when I was little but the idea is gross to me now!
As a child I really enjoyed PB & Jelly too but also my grandma's refried beans and sopa shells.
I always loved plain cheese and crackers with deli meats. :)
I know most people say its gross, but I loved a good bologna, cheese, mayo and mustard sandwich. oh and it had to have lettuce for crunch! not to mentioned, the mini rice krispy treat that i always included in my lunch bag. mmmmm!
